Gulf of Guinea (GoG)

When transiting the Gulf of Guinea it is critical that ship-owners and charterers firmly understand the following vital information when considering the use of armed security: It is illegal for Private Maritime Security Companies to carry firearms in any of the West African territorial waters, Nigeria, (Lagos & Port Harcourt), Togo, (Lome), Benin, (Cotonou) and Ghana, (Accra & Tema). It is also illegal for Private Maritime Security Companies to transit firearms through any of these countries.

Any armed security personnel inside of these countries’ territorial waters must be serving members of the National Armed Forces. The National Armed Forces of the respective countries will not carry insurance for their personnel on-board commercial shipping tasks, LGS take this responsibility instead and ensure that all personnel operate professionally and efficiently in order to mitigate any risks.

Nigeria

LGS hosts a permanent British Operations Manager and British team in Nigeria. From static oil & gas installations, seismic & drilling operations to FPSOs or commercial vessels, we have our own Security Escort Vessels to circum-navigate the client asset to make operations/transits as safe and cost effective as possible.

We provide maritime security solutions within the GoG by providing highly experienced British Team Leaders to orchestrate armed local security teams onboard. Our operational license (MOU) held between ourselves and the Nigerian Navy enables us to deploy highly-trained teams in support of client operations to ensure they can operate safely within the High Risk Areas (HRA). LGS also delivers guidance on the International Code of Conduct as well as understanding what is required when operating on a commercial vessel. By providing a liaison between the Master of the vessel and the local armed forces, our experience gives the Master and crew confidence to enter these troubled waters.

We understand the challenges facing the maritime industry, our expertise is the result of hundreds of successful operations and we guarantee the security of the crew and assets that we secure.

We provide either armed or unarmed security teams in our primary mission to deter pirate attack; and our Rules of Use of Force are fully compliant with the international regulations. Our teams are fully equipped with state of the art offshore equipment to ensure they can provide the very best level of service to our clients; which includes:
